Summary

The Pasturebird business is hiring a Director of Farm Operations to oversee and direct all farm operations in and around Butler, GA.  This a multifaceted role encompassing a wide range of duties and responsibilities to run Pasturebird operations efficiently as the business continues to grow.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plan and oversee schedules and rotations in partnership with leadership including livestock operations (breeding, feeding, and healthcare)

Develop and manage budgets, ensuring cost-effective farm operations. Monitor financial performance, analyze data, and make informed decisions to optimize profitability.

Hire, train, and supervise farm staff. Delegate tasks, set performance expectations, and provide leadership to create a cohesive and efficient workforce.

Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure. Ensure that facilities meet safety and regulatory standards.

Support leadership as needed with strategic plans for the farm, considering factors such as market trends and sustainability practices.

Oversee procurement needs such as supplies, equipment, etc. Manage inventory levels to avoid shortages and wastage.

Stay informed about animal and agricultural regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols. Ensure the farm complies with local, state, and federal laws.

Maintain accurate records of farming activities, financial transactions, and inventory. Prepare reports for stakeholders, or regulatory agencies as required

Ensure sustainable and effective practices and standards are being upheld by staff and 3rd parties.

Develop and implement emergency response plans for unforeseen events such as natural disasters or disease outbreaks. Identify and manage risks to ensure the continuity of farm operations

Delegate responsibilities as appropriate with the staff and lead the team

Problem solve and direct solutions as needed when repairs are needed

Interface with the Harvest plant to manager scheduling, planning and logistics as needed

Work with and Senior Leadership as it relates to new construction or new business development

Liaison between Plant and Pasturebird leadership

Minimum Education and Experience

HS Diploma is required but a bachelor’s degree is preferred.  Must have a minimum of 7+ years in a relevant field with experience in operations management.  Experience with poultry is required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Solid grasp of preventative maintenance (structures and equipment) such as greasing, oil changes and routine inspections
  • Understanding of electrical systems for trouble shooting such as solar systems/pv arrays and dc current, 3phase power/vfds plc operation, basic wiring and poultry auger systems
  • Safety assessment experience such as monitor building for safe operation and others similar to preventive maintenance but needs to be observed in operation
  • Understand appropriate/safe equipment operation relating to tractors, fork lifts, man lifts, skid loaders
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office and comfortable with Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Solid track record of problem solving and fixing and preventing future challenges

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

1. Must be physically able to work in all locations including hatcheries, feed mills, chicken houses and processing plants. 2. Exposed to seasonal weather conditions as well as significant amount of airborne dust, feathers, 3. When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company. 4. Exposure to chicken manure and associated odors, including ammonia, especially in the production houses. 5. Required to perform moderate physical exertion to include pushing pulling and lifting up to 75 lbs. 6. Must be able to climb to a height of 30' as well as significant amount of bending, lifting and stooping.
