SCHOOL INFORMATION

NorthPointe Christian Schools is an independent Christian school formed in 1972 serving over 1,300 preschool through high school students from over 120 churches. NPC's pairs academic excellence with a strong, Christ-centered environment to reach our mission of "equipping students to impact their world for Jesus Christ." 

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  This is a part-time, long-term substitute position for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
  • 25-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
  • Main duties include overseeing the implementation of individualized student plans and working one-on-one and in small groups with students to support their learning needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Support the School’s Foundational Statements and mission through word and deed.
  • Integrate Biblical principles and Scripture into daily activities. Minister to students through prayer, encouragement, and wise counsel.
  • Offer teacher training in the areas of differentiated instruction, program development, and establish Individualized Student Plans (ISP's) and 504 Plans while partnering with GRPS and NPC team members.
  • Partner in assessments, intervention, and progress monitoring; set goals and objectives for pull out core class students, oversee behavior and academic improvement plans for special education students, closely communicate with faculty members about the progress of students.
  • Plan for and provide quality differentiated, remedial instruction and materials for modified classes including the development of objectives and goals.
  • Together with general education teachers, guide accommodation and modification of the general education curriculum based upon effective, varied remedial instruction and technology.
  • Oversee an inclusion student support school program (ConnectPoints/Circle of Friends or similar) for the purpose of social and discipleship support within the classroom and outside with monthly gatherings.
  • Communicate regularly with parents to nurture a supportive and cooperative relationship between home and school. Respond to parent phone calls as soon as possible but no later than forty-eight hours via phone or email.
  • Model, monitor, and assist general education teachers toward adherence to inclusive education program requirements.
  • Attend a minimum two per year professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Professionally represents the school in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students. Remain professional in attire and behavior.
  • Maintain open communication with leadership regarding questions, concerns, and needs. Respect the confidential nature of the role with sensitive management of information within the school community; information should not be shared outside the context of ESS responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Active Christian in agreement with and willing to sign the NorthPointe Christian School’s Foundational statements.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Education with Special Education certification endorsement: Learning Disabilities and/or cognitive impairment endorsement; a commitment to further education in the field.
  • Personal characteristics: Compassionate, organized, timely, flexible, strong listening and communication skills (orally and written), spiritual supportive, discerning, visionary, and collaborative.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Able to pass required background checks and fingerprint screening.
  • Exhibit the verbal ability to understand meaning of words, the ideas associated with them, and the ability to convey them to others clearly using oral expression and comprehension.

  • Physically able to:
    • Frequently stand and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Frequently use manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate equipment, and move around the classroom.
    • On occasion, engage with students while kneeling, squatting, stooping, or bending 50-70 degrees at the waist.
    • Perform daily repetitive movement of fingers and hands when writing and typing.
    • Read printed and electronic material daily. See with clarity objects using close, distant, and peripheral vision.
    • Sufficiently hear conversations in person and distinguish sounds clearly up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to maintain continuous safety of the students and respond quickly and appropriately to any threat toward their well-being.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a standard classroom, office, or gathering space. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
