Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Interpreter Education Specialist (IES) to join our Interpreter Education and Professional Development (IEPD) team. This role reports directly to the IEPD Program Manager and will play an integral part in fostering a culture of life-long learning, celebrating diversity, and promoting professional excellence in the interpreting field. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the IEPD Program Manager on various projects and initiatives.
Apply instructional design theories and methods to create impactful learning experiences.
Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop objective-based learning materials, including classroom or virtual training, guides, interactive exercises, and support materials.
Design engaging educational content using a wide range of formats such as simulations, team exercises, group discussions, self-paced eLearning, videos, and blended learning for a diverse audience.
Support workshops, training logistics, skill assessments, mentoring, and other related duties as needed.
Serve as a trusted resource in training and ensure that all materials reflect the department's and organization's goals.
Collaborate with interpreting management and team members to enhance the experience of participants using training products.
Perform other duties as assigned to support department objectives.
Education:
Preferred: Certification from a national interpreter certifying entity (RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC, BEI, or NAD Level IV or V) or state certification. ASLTA certification is a plus.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Active participation in Deaf community organizations or professional membership in interpreting or Deaf studies is a plus.
Experience:
4+ years of experience as a sign language interpreter or Deaf Interpreter in various settings preferred.
3+ years of instructional design experience for web-based or instructor-led training is a bonus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrate excellent teaching, mentoring, and communication skills.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with the ability to teach and present in ASL.
Strong commitment to a learner-centered approach to interpreter education and professional development.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: instructional design, learning theory, applied linguistics, interpreter education, distance learning, or curriculum design.
Ability to embrace innovation, a global perspective, and interdisciplinary projects.
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset to work effectively with internal and external teams.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and ensure quality reporting and program evaluation.
Proficiency in computer applications, including reporting tools, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and online meeting platforms.
Understanding of the Video Relay Service (VRS) industry is a plus.
Familiarity with NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Working Conditions and Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in an office environment.
Dexterity in handling computer tools, including keyboards, mice, and other components.
Predictable attendance is required.
Occasional travel may be required (less than 25%).
Flexibility in work schedule is necessary.
A positive attitude and team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
