Residential Appraisers are responsible for properly discovering, listing, valuing, and defending appealed property values for the residential real property parcels in Sedgwick County. This is accomplished through properly applied mass appraisal techniques in accordance with the State of Kansas Statutes and the Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Property Valuation (PVD), directives and guidelines, office policies and procedures, and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
Annual appraisal database maintenance.
Annual property appeals.
Final reconciliation of values.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Meet one of the following requirements; One year of experience working with or managing data, experience in real estate, appraisal, new construction, real estate development, real estate lending, real estate insurance adjusting, or drafting -OR- One year of mass appraisal experience as a field appraiser or administrative support in a Kansas County Appraiser’s Office. Must successfully pass the following courses within three years of hire date; International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Course 101 – Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal, IAAO Course 102 – Income Approach to Valuation, Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), Orion Introduction and Overview of Basic Functionality. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid U.S. driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have a properly registered and licensed passenger vehicle to use on a daily basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Real Estate, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. Three years of mass appraisal experience. At least one mass appraisal designation: Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE), Residential Evaluation Specialist (RES), Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS), Mass Appraisal Specialist (MAS), or Registered Mass Appraiser (RMA) required.
