We're looking for a Substation Physical Design Engineer to join our Electric Utility Design team at our Overland Park location (in office).

Responsibilities:

  • Development of substation design drawings including:
    • General Arrangements & Layouts
    • Elevations & Section Details
    • Below Grade Conduit Plans & Schedules
    • Lightning Protection Plans/Analysis
    • Ground Grid Design & Grounding Details
    • Bill of Materials (BOM)
    • Control Building Layouts & Equipment
  • Develop bid documents and material specifications.
  • Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback.
  • Effectively communicate design requirements and collaborate with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, survey, etc.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to staff members.
  • Attend client meetings to ensure the design meets their needs and objectives.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • PE license in Kansas preferred (or the ability to obtain the license in a timely manner).
  • 5-7 years of experience in Substation Physical design.
  • Knowledgeable on applicable codes and industry standards including the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Bulletins, and applicable IEEE Standards.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Mathcad, and other design tools.
  • Experience with PLS-POLE/CADD, Osmose O-Calc Pro, ETAP, Milsoft WindMil/LightTable, SKM Power Tools, Substation Design Suite (SDS), is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of power system design and operations.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple project tasks. Excellent presentation, written communication, time management, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, be self-directed, exhibit good business judgment, and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings may be required.
